PhD

Starting from AY 2023/2024, Politecnico di Milano has reserved some accommodation options for PhD students.

For AY 2024/2025 the type of accommodation that can be booked is in a single room in a shared apartment in one of the following residences:

 – Marie Curie (apartments for 2 PhD students) – annual fee (12 months) € 6,546.00;

 – Einstein (apartments for 3 or 4 PhD students) – annual fee (12 months) € 6,546.00;

 – Pareto (apartments for 3 or 4 PhD students) – annual fee (12 months) € 5,454.00;

The apartments are mixed (i.e. they could be assigned to people with different genders), and assigned automatically by the system.

Every PhD student will only be able to book one place; the booked accommodation is reserved for the 3 years of the standard PhD career and it cannot be changed.

Before making the reservation we therefore suggest you verify in which campus your PhD activities will be held.

 

 

BOOKING

 

It is possible to see if there are any availabilities and book through the online booking portal. Only those who are enrolled in the 40th cycle will be able to book, and more specifically:

    – the winners of the Call with courses starting on 12/09/2024

    – the winners of the Call with courses starting on 01/11/2024.

Booking will be possible during one Stage which will open on 25/07/2024 at 12:00 PM (midday, Italian time).

In the case in which one fails to enrol in the PhD programme by Politecnico di Milano, the right to be allocated this accommodation will be lost and the fee paid during reservation will not be reimbursed, with the exception of the safety deposit, which will be reduced by € 100.00 for administrative fees.

In the case in which enrolment is finalised, but visa is not obtained, payment of the accommodation fees is due in any case with no discounts.

 

 

DURATION OF THE RESERVATION

 

Upon booking, accommodation is reserved for the 3 years of standard PhD career.

If during these years our guests were to participate in a training period abroad, they can decide whether they wish to keep the accommodation while continuing to pay the accommodation fee, or they prefer to cancel within the terms and following the procedures as per the “Cancellation” paragraph.

At the time of booking, it is therefore possible to book accommodation for 3 years, following the periods herebelow:

 – Call with courses starting on 12/09/2024: upon booking, the accommodation will be reserved from 04/11/2024 to 10/09/2027.

 – Call with courses starting on 01/11/2024: upon booking, the accommodation will be reserved from 04/11/2024 to 29/10/2027.

PLEASE NOTE: only those who finalise enrolment will be able to check-in in the halls of residence. It will not be possible for candidates who are not yet officially enrolled in their respective courses to check-in, even though they have a valid booking.

 

 

CHECK-IN DATES

 

Regardless of the date in which courses begin, it will be possible to check-in starting from 04/11/2024.

 

 

PAYMENTS

 

Upon booking, it will be possible to choose whether to pay each of the three years (12 months each) with a one-off payment, discounted by 5% (the first payment will include the safety deposit of € 500.00 + the fee for the first year in the hall of residence that is being booked); otherwise, it is possible to pay in four-month instalments (3 instalments per year, for a total of 9 instalments, the first of which includes the safety deposit of € 500.00 + the fee corresponding to the first instalment for the hall of residence that is being booked).

The amount due is irrespective of the actual check-in date.

In the case in which one fails to enrol in the PhD programme by Politecnico di Milano, the fee paid during reservation will not be reimbursed, with the exception of the safety deposit, which will be reduced by € 100.00 for administrative fees.

In the case in which enrolment is finalised, but visa is not obtained, payment of the accommodation fees is due in any case with no discounts.

 

 

INSTALMENTS ISSUING

 

It is possible to refer to the list of the dates of issuing of the instalments for the 40th cycle and each of the previous cycles by clicking here.

 

 

CANCELLATION

 

After having checked-in in the halls of residence, it is possible to cancel the accommodation, but the notification must be sent two months before the issuing of the following instalment, not later.

Example: booking with start date 12/09 and payment in instalments; the required payment includes the safety deposit and the first instalment covering the period 12/09/2024-12/01/2025; in the case in which the PhD student wishes to leave the accommodation by 12/01/2025 without paying the following instalments, it is necessary to notify the cancellation within and no later than 12/11/2024.

In the case in which the notice of cancellation is sent later than the abovementioned notice period, it will be necessary to pay the following instalment in full.

The same notice period is also necessary if one intends to stay for a period that is different from the one corresponding to the instalment that is going to be issued.

Example: booking with start date 12/09 and payment in instalments; the required payment includes the safety deposit and the first instalment covering the period 12/09/2024-12/01/2025; in the case in which one wants to leave the accommodation by 12/03/2025 and not pay the next instalment in full, it is necessary to notify the cancellation within and no later than 12/11/2024.

In the case in which the notice of cancellation is sent later than the abovementioned notice period, it will be necessary to pay the following instalment in full.

To notify us of the cancellation, the PhD student is required to open a ticket called “CANCELLATION” here, and at the same time send an email to: phd-events@polimi.it.

Any notification sent through different channels than the ones indicated will not be considered as valid.

We would also like to highlight that the official cancellation notification and the communication of the check-out date to the director of the residence are to be considered as two separate communications, each of them with different procedures and timing.

Once the guests notify us of the cancellation, they will receive all the necessary indications to proceed with check-out and safety deposit reimbursement.

 

 

TAKEOVERS

 

In the case in which during the academic year any accommodation were to become available following cancellations, it will be made available by the PhD school exclusively to those who are eligible through ad-hoc communications sent via email.

Following the PhD school’s acceptance of the request, the Housing & Dining Unit will contact the PhD students to make the booking official.

NB: regardless of when check-in is finalised, the date until which said accommodation is made available will depend on when said accommodation expires.
