Starting in the 2023 – 2024 academic year, Politecnico di Milano will provide dedicated accommodation for PhD students enrolling in the XXXIX (39th) cycle.

You can book a single room or a place in a shared flat in the following residence halls:

– Marie Curie (flats for 2 PhD students) – 42 places available – annual fee (12 months) € 6,545.00;

– Einstein (flats for 3 or 4 PhD students) – 18 places available – annual fee (12 months) € 6,545.00;

– Pareto (flats for 3 or 4 PhD students) – 22 places available – annual fee (12 months) € 5,455.00.

The flats are mixed (i.e., allocated to both genders M/F) and are assigned automatically by the system.

Each PhD student may only book one accommodation place; the place booked is reserved for the standard 3-year PhD career.

Booking

Each year there are two periods for booking your accommodation, and are reserved for selection winners who will actually enrol in PhD programmes.

– PHASE 1 (25 to 31 July 2023)

This is for 39th cycle winners who participated in the PhD Call published in the Official Journal of the Italian Republic (hereinafter “OJ”), with deadline 26 May 2023 and programmes starting on 12 September 2023, and Additional Call winners (with deadline 29 June and programmes starting on 12 September or 1 November 2023).

The winners (even if not enrolled yet) will be enabled to book and will be able to connect to the booking platform from 25 July 2023 at 12.00 noon (Italian time) to 31 July 2023 (until 12.00 noon, Italian time). 39th cycle candidates in the above-mentioned calls will be required to access here.

In this phase, only accommodation at the Marie Curie residence hall can be booked.

– PHASE 2 (from 11 October 2023 to 31 January 2024)

This is for 39th cycle winners who participated in the Additional Call (with deadline 5 September and programmes starting on 1 November or 22 December 2023) and in the Additional Call (with deadline 29 September and programmes starting on 22 December 2023).

The winners (even if not enrolled yet) will be enabled to book and will be able to connect to book from 11 October 2023 at 12.00 noon (Italian time) to 31 January 2024. 39th cycle candidates in the above-mentioned calls will be required to access here.

In this phase, only accommodation at the Pareto and Einstein residences hall can be booked (or any residual accommodation at the Marie Curie residence hall).

Those who in BOOKING PHASE 1 (25-31 July 2023) were unable to book a place will be allowed to participate in BOOKING STAGE 2, which will start on 11 October 2023.

Those who fail to enrol in a PhD programme at Politecnico di Milano will loose the right to occupy the accommodation and will not be refunded the money paid for reserving it, except the security deposit from which, however, € 100.00 will be retained for administrative expenses.

No discount will be granted to those who enrol in a PhD programme but do not obtain an entry visa and they will be required to regularly pay the instalments.

Booking duration

Upon booking, you have the option of reserving the accommodation for 3 years, according to the following dates:

  – OJ Call with programme starting 12 September 2023: your booking will reserve the accommodation from 12 September 2023 to 11 September 2026.

  – Additional Call with programme starting on 12 September 2023: your booking will reserve the accommodation from 12 September 2023 to 11 September 2026.

  – Additional Call with programme starting 1 November 2023: your booking will reserve the accommodation from 6 November 2023 to 30 October 2026.

  – Additional Call with programme starting 22 December 2023: your booking will reserve the accommodation from 22 December 2023 to 21 December 2026.

PLEASE NOTE: only those who have actually enrolled in a programme will be able to check in at the residence hall. Candidates who have not officially enrolled in their respective programme will not be allowed to check in, even if they have a valid reservation.

Check-in dates

  – Doctoral student with programme starting 12 September 2023:

those enrolling by 5 September will be able to access their booked accommodation from 12 September (subject to notification of the check-in day via the online SOL check-in/check-out button). Those enrolling after 5 September will be able to access their booked accommodation five working days after registration.

  – Doctoral student with programme starting 1 November 2023:

those enrolling by 25 October will be able to access their booked accommodation from 6 November (subject to notification of the check-in day via the online SOL check-in/check-out button).  Those enrolling after 25 October will be able to access their booked accommodation from Wednesday 8 November 2023.

  – Doctoral student with programme starting 22 December 2023:

those enrolling by 15 December will be able to access their booked accommodation from 22 December (subject to notification of the check-in day via the online SOL check-in/check-out button). Those enrolling after 15 December will be able to access their booked accommodation from 10 January 2024.

Takeovers

Any accommodation place that becomes free (due to cancellation) by 31 January 2024 will be made available here.

The Doctoral School will inform via email all students entitled of any accommodation place that becomes free (due to cancellation) after 1 February 2024.

NB: in the event of a takeover, the final availability date of the accommodation place will NOT depend on the PhD call won by the student but will depend on the original expiry date of the accomodation place that has become available (e.g., if the doctoral students giving up accomodation is the winner of an OJ call, that accommodation place will be made available until 11 September 2026, regardless of the taking over student’s date of admission).

Payments

Booking an accommodation place means reserving it for 3 years.

When booking you can choose whether to pay the first year (12 months) in full, with a 5% discount (plus € 500.00 security deposit); or whether to pay in four-monthly instalments (3 instalments per year, the first of which is the € 500.00 security deposit + the cost of the first instalment for the residence hall you are booking).

Cancellations and conditions

The amount payable is independent of the actual check-in date.

Those who fail to enrol in a PhD programme at Politecnico di Milano will not be refunded the money paid for reserving it, except the security deposit from which, however, € 100.00 will be retained for administrative expenses.

Hot to cancel

It is possible to cancel the occupied place within two months before the next installment, not further.

Example: reservation starting 12 September and payment in instalments; the security deposit + the first instalment for the period 12 September 2023 – 12 January 2024 is required; if you want to leave the accommodation by 12 January and do not pay the subsequent instalments, you must give notice of cancellation by 12 November 2023.

Doctoral students in the 37th and 38th cycles can book the above mentioned accommodation too; however, they can book all other accommodation available to all students on the page booking/full rate accomodation.
